The Real Baron Vieux
I filmed myself in the kitchen tonight without really meaning to make anything out of it. Backwards cap, glasses down my nose, apron on. Just me, working. I put four words over it before I posted it: missing my homie, Mike.
People who follow this page know Baron Vieux as the version of me in the noir posters, the glasses and the theater and the line "a man who treats plating like a stage entrance." That line isn't an accident. That's Mike. That's the guy who could turn anything into art and then go build a life out of it, because that's just who he was built to be. Some of what makes Baron Baron, I learned watching my friend.
The Apothecary in these books is a real kitchen. Tonight it was just me in it, missing him, the way you do when it's quiet and your hands are busy and your head isn't.
So this is the real Baron Vieux, for anyone who wondered. Still standing at the pass. Still building something worth building. Still missing you, Mike.

In Loving Memory: Steve "Mike" Mickle Jr.
When they moved next door, it was three girls and one boy. The girls broke his toe early one morning, causing a lot of commotion for that early hour. Out of commission for a bit, he and I played Atari for hours getting to know each other.
From that day on, we would fight, laugh, play football, rib each other, build bikes, start liking girls, walk to school every day, enroll in college, get married, and evolve into careers and responsible adults.
One word I think I can use to describe "Mike"… would be ART. He was a work of art, and he of course made a life of it.
Steve "Mike" Mickle Jr. is on his way creating his next masterpiece. I'm going to miss you here, my friend. Until we meet again. RIP. 🕊️🎨
